Ratings

So I just read post on Facebook that deeply offended me, but then also had me questioning my own past views.

A young woman posted about her recent experience using a well known dating app and a response she received from potential, or so she thought, connection. It read along the lines of, “Sorry, I could never go on date with you as, at best, you rate as a 6. Ad I am an 8, obviously I’m looking for someone equal or higher to my rating.”

First of all, who rated him an 8? Secondly, if I were to be objective, I’d score her higher than a 6. However, beauty is subjective. What one finds beautiful is not always seen the same way by another. Using this guy’s rating mechanic and his goal to date equal to or higher, what makes him think a 10 rated woman would want to be seen with a 8 rated male?

The whole thing is preposterous! Beauty is very much within the eye of the beholder and should not be subjective to a dumb ratings method.

I’d like to think I’ve rejected the chance of a relationship based on compatibility, not because of looks alone.

Sex and words about it

I will neither apologise for the words I write, nor the feelings and emotions expressed by those that read them.

Yes I write about sex, erotica as well as observations about women, and post it here or on my author page. You have the choice of reading what I write, or passing it over or even deleting me if you’re that offended.

My goal is put a smile onto the faces where maybe one was lacking. To spark a fire where only ashes smoulder. I’m not deliberately trying to offend or shock people. Just putting into words what most of us do regularly, or at least dream about doing.

Dare to Dream

I saw part of a programme the other day about dreams, goals and aspirations. It was interesting to hear from a broad spectrum of people about those that achieved theirs, those that gave up and those still chasing.

I am Chris Brown and I had dreams. Some have come true, like being married to someone crazy enough to love me despite my flaws. To be a dad to two wonderful children and have a roof over our heads, clothes on our backs and food on the table.

Some I’ll never see come true. Being the best at what I do, because no matter how hard I try and as much effort that I expend, for some it’s just not good enough.

I may never retire financially secure, be recognised for that which I’ve given or pass a legacy to my children they’ll be proud of.

I’ve changed my dreams, set my sights on different ambitions to those I may have originally aspired, but the thing is I dared to dream. I’ve tried being a success, and though I may not of reached the dizzy heights of others, I dared to try.

When the time comes and I’m asked what did you do with your time, my answer will be “I tried to dare to dream.”

Picture Challenge

I walked what seemed like hours in the darkness
Taking re-assurance from the texture of uneven bark between my fingers
The trees, some three times my age, guided me
Like an old man holding gently the hand of his grandchild
I walked towards the light that hung in the air like some ghostly apparition
With a beauty most haunting it gave me chills
Was I heading towards salvation from the colour of the night
Or a prelude to my own eternal darkness

Velvet Rose

I gave my love a silver ring
Said “It’s you that I adore”
She placed it in a trinket box
Then threw me out the door

I gave my love some sweet perfume
She fumed “You think I smell?”
I threw myself right out that door
Before she gave me Hell

I gave my love a chocolate heaven
Sweets from all round the world
I slammed the door and ran away
As each one at me she hurled

I gave my love a single rose
Of deepest velvet red
She pulled me in and closed the door
Then lead me to her bed

It’s not that easy being a man
Knowing just what gift to give
But persevere, you’ll get it right
And for the rest they will forgive

Kiss Goodbye

He held her in his arms, the warm gentle rain helping to mask the tears in her eyes, but he knew they were there.

“I don’t want you to leave,” she whispered, knowing that she asked of him the impossible.

Saying nothing, he pressed his lips against hers. There in that moment, they kissed passionately as if it was their first and last.
