The Flock

The herd flock towards a solitary tree

Many seeking shelter under just one

As if its stature tall and defiant

Was somehow reminiscent of the shepherd

As they look for guidance and direction

Sanctuary from the bleak winter onset

Taking shelter from outstretched arms

They flock together under a solitary tree

    • I live in rural Yorkshire, UK. We have wet rainy days, where the fog rolls down the hills like a comforting blanket. There are fields a plenty with hardy sheep that graze through the worst our weather has to offer. I’ve seen farmers put food troughs under trees to offer shelter, not only to keep the food dry but for his flock too.
