Deadliest Desire

Of all the desires I dared to harbour

One proved itself to be more deadly

It shattered my world as if made of glass

And into depression I slipped

I dared to dream for once of letting go

Allowing the rock I had become to crumble

Into tiny pebbles that would wash themselves up

Upon someone else’s shore

And whilst it felt good not bearing the weight

Of the whole world upon my shoulders

As I looked back from whose beach I’d washed

I saw only a sea of nothing
