The Guardians

Defiant they stood

Arms and fingers entwined

Interlocking emerald green armour

Forming a protective shield

Shading the lush carpeted glade

From the heat of the Summer sun
But soon Autumn will arrive

Rusting their armour

From green to yellows and browns

Causing them to fall the limbs

Blanketing the once lush floor

Continuing to protect even in death
And then Winter heralds her approach

Icy winds biting around the guardians

But definitely they remain tall

Trying in vain to hold back her tears

White cold and in the masses

Building deep upon the glade floor
By the time Spring arrives triumphant

Signs of the green emerald armour return

Sprouting upon the arms and fingers

Of the guardians standing tall

The lush carpet too sprouts into life

Before the whole cycle revolves again
